Recently, many publications including the Los Angeles Times and Biomaterials Forum have had articles that describe a new class of "smart materials", known as ACP. Research has shown that ACP can, as needed, trigger the slow release of calcium and phosphate ions, the basic building blocks of teeth. In scientific studies and testing, ACP has also demonstrated the ability to re-mineralize tooth structures. As a result, these "smart materials" may have the ability to enhance the teeth’s natural repair mechanism.

Aegis® Pit & Fissure Sealant contains a filler containing ACP that is more resilient and flexible, which creates a stronger, longer lasting sealant. This light cured product has a controlled flowability that keeps the sealant on the tooth structure while completely filling occlusal pit and fissures. Furthermore, Aegis® Pit and Fissure Sealant forms a chemical and thermal barrier protecting the tooth enamel on the occlusal surface from carious attacks. Aegis® Pit and Fissure Sealant can be used with any light curing device. It also offers the added convenience and placement accuracy of a Flowthru® Microbrush® syringe tip.
